How to Host a Festival
The Steve Wingfield Festival process is multifaceted and requires several months of preparation and coordination. Following is a brief description of some of the activities associated with a Festival.
First, and foremost, there is prayer. Typically, an individual or a small group of pastors and/or lay leaders will pray together for awakening and renewal to come to their churches and homes. As this core group grows through answered prayer, the vision will become clear that the community could realize great and lasting benefits from an area-wide evangelistic movement.
When the number of involved church and local leaders desiring to impact their community reaches a “critical mass”, a provisional committee is often formed to explore possibilities. At this point, a Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association team member will be available to fully discuss the possibility of scheduling a joint evangelistic event. During the initial meetings between the Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association and the local leadership, most questions about the Steve Wingfield Festival process are answered.
After prayerful consideration and discussion, the local group will decide to take the step of conducting a Steve Wingfield Festival in their area. The group will then extend an invitation to the Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association to bring its ministry team to the community to make a Steve Wingfield Festival a reality.
Building a strong foundation is essential to the success of a Steve Wingfield Festival. Special banquets, rallies, and breakfasts are held for pastors, business leaders, and the general public to coalesce the community behind a singular goal – the evangelism of the local community. An experienced Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association Festival Director will be assigned to coordinate all phases of the Steve Wingfield Festival.
A Steve Wingfield Festival is a community event. The local churches and businesses and their respective leaders support the Steve Wingfield Festival with their time, talents, and resources. Involvement and participation produces commitment. One goal for the Steve Wingfield Festival is to involve as many people as possible in advance of the Festival in at least one meaningful role. People from a variety of backgrounds serve on the all-important teams by volunteering to do whatever is necessary to “make it happen”. Each community instills its unique theme and spiritual goals for the Festival.
Because a Steve Wingfield Festival “belongs” to the community in which it is held, the Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association works hand-in-hand with the local leadership to establish the structure best suited for that particular community. Appropriate individuals are selected to serve on the General Committee and to serve as the various team leaders. Budgets are determined and a local office is established.
The Festival Director oversees the training of volunteer counselors, ushers, choir members, and others who will perform various support functions. The training includes a Volunteer Recruitment Rally, which clarifies the vision and responsibilities of the various teams and helps insure that all of the tasks and events associated with the Steve Wingfield Festival will run smoothly.
Most importantly, the Festival Director conducts several sessions of the Sharing Your Faith Course. This course has proven to be a very effective method of evangelism as well as a means of establishing and maintaining meaningful personal relationships. Those who receive the training serve as counselors during the Steve Wingfield Festival and are then available for follow-up within their respective churches. When a pastor embraces the Steve Wingfield Festival and establishes priorities for evangelism, rich blessings become possible.
As described earlier, a primary component of the readiness process is prayer. Team leaders and members, staff, church congregations, pastors, community leaders, and other intercessors get together at Concerts of Prayer to provide a covering for the event.
Additionally, pastors benefit from the Spiritual Leadership Conference as well-known church leaders share fresh ministry principles. The entire community becomes aware of the upcoming Steve Wingfield Festival through a coordinated and concentrated publicity campaign.
During the last few weeks before the Steve Wingfield Festival, an emphasis is put on inviting friends, relatives, co-workers, and others by employing the “Four for Four” strategy, which recognizes that at least 80% of people who come to Christ do so through the nurture and encouragement of another.
All of the preparatory activities – recruitment, organization, and training – are designed to achieve the greatest possible degree of involvement of the local church community. The timeless truth, “the more that you put into something, the more that you’ll get out of it,” certainly is true in this case. Said another way, involvement produces commitment.
The untold hours of preparation and prayer come to a climax during the Steve Wingfield Festival. The lives of individuals and the spirit of communities are forever changed as the message and manifestation of God’s love are proclaimed throughout the event. Powerful and persuasive preaching, inspiring testimonies, and moving music highlight the Festival.
Through the efforts of the Follow-up Team, those who make decisions for Christ are referred to a participating church and assigned to a mature believer to continue their discipleship.
The Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association is committed to maintaining a relationship with the community, which goes beyond the week of the Steve Wingfield Festival. We realize there is a great need for churches to keep the vision for evangelism and discipleship alive in the local church.
Finally, many communities experience such dramatic renewal, awakening, and unity that they elect to maintain ongoing teams to build on the success of the Steve Wingfield Festival. Many of the pastors and business leaders who have forged new relationships choose to actively continue their associations to benefit the community. Additionally, the energetic team of trained counselors continues the process of evangelism in their own neighborhood congregations.
